How It Works

Processing & Refining

Recycling Gold and other precious metals benefits the planet

Processing

Jewelry for Good partners with United Coin & Jewelry (UCJ) for precious metal processing. UCJ executes a safe and secure auditing process with the latest in metal analysis technology.

UCJ’s processing lab is double alarmed, secure, and on around-the-clock camera surveillance. The safe is UL rated, alarmed and monitored 24/7, and can hold over $2 million of donations.

Every package is opened on camera, weighed, and the metals verified for purity using a Thermo Scientific Niton XL2-XRF Analyzer and spot-audited by an external CPA firm.

Once the metals are sorted, they are weighed again by type.

Now your donation receipt is prepared with an itemization by grams, including the total value for each type of metal, so you receive the most accurate report of your donation’s value.

You will receive a donation receipt via email for 100% of the actual market value of the gold or silver as your tax deduction.

Jewelry for Good sends a check to the charity of your choice for the cash value of your items, less the cost of processing and refining, which can mean real dollars for your charity.

Refining Scrap Gold

Gold is a very scarce and valuable metal that is recycled and used over and over again. Approximately 20 tons of gold ore is required to get around 10 grams of pure 24 karat gold. The environmental impact of modern gold ore mining is devastating.

Pure gold is highly valued because it is lustrous, rare, easy to melt, and is an excellent conductor of electricity. As it is a very precious metal, recycling gold is a cost-effective and planet-friendly alternative to retain it for lifetime.

Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold.
